FNB launches Classic Clashes
FNB Namibia yesterday launched the fourth consecutive Classic Clashes at Windhoek High School (WHS).
The Classic Clashes, which is aimed at school going youth competing in the sports codes of netball, soccer and rugby, has grown in leaps and bounds over the years.
When it was launched four years ago, only seven matches took place in the FNB Classic Clashes but the competition now has 20 matches between 20 schools, which take place in central, northern and southern Namibia as well as at the coast.
Speaking at the launch Dixon Norval, Head of FNB Marketing and Corporate Communications said that FNB is proud of this competition as it has become a sought-after programme with most schools wishing to become involved.
“We reasoned that our annual N$2.5million football sponsorship needed additional support in terms of capacity-building, and we are confident that investing in the development of the youth will give us just that,” he added.
This year the FNB Classic Clashed boasts with a new modern addition, which is bound to become a favourite amongst the youngsters, namely a special FNB Classic Clashes Namibia Face Book page for the youth to share their achievements and experiences with their peers.
“Pupils, players, parents – all Classic Clashes fanatics can visit the Face Book page before and after every match to view the participating school’s profile as well as the results of previous matches.
You can, for instance, upload your pictures of a specific Classic Clash –and then stand a chance to win some fabulous prizes,” said Norval.
Norval concluded by advising all youngsters taking part in the FNB Classic Clashes this year to remember that sport and sportsmanship should be the winner of any match.
The FNB Classic Clashes 2012 kick off on June 8 and 9 in Keetmanshoop and Mariental respectively.
