The nearly one-year employee of ‘The Diamond Works’ reportedly made off with about N$640 000 worth of jewelry and another N$640 000 in cash stolen from one of the company’s two Windhoek stores.
His wealth was short-lived, however, as according to sources close to the event, the theft was discovered the next morning, and by Tuesday afternoon, police had ordered a full-scale investigation to track him down.
Their search ended at around midnight on Tuesday, the Namibian Police’s Regional Crime Coordinator for Khomas, Deputy Commissioner Sylvanus Nghishidimbwa, told Namibian Sun yesterday that when police apprehended him at Groot Aub in the Khomas Rural District.
Nghishidimbwa said all the stolen stock was recovered from him.
The store was less lucky, however, in retrieving the stolen cash with the suspect apparently telling police he had spent it all on purchasing cocaine.
He was set to make his first appearance in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
Store manager Vicky De Jesus confirmed the incident yesterday, but refrained from giving any more information, saying only that the store was happy to have retrieved the stolen jewelry.
