Mysterious murder

A murder scene where a man was stoned and burnt was discovered in the bushes of Otjimuise when a passerby looking for wood stumbled across it.

The body of the 31-year-old student of the International University of Management was discovered at about 09:00 on Saturday morning close to Matjitji Street.

According to the Khomas Crime Co-ordinator, Deputy Commissioner Sylvanus Nghishimba, the man has been identified as Eliakim Kandali Inane, 31, after his cousin reported him missing to the police on Saturday morning. There were signs that the man was murdered and his ears and neck were cut with a blade which was found at the scene. His body was burned and there were several rocks covered with blood and signs that the body had been dragged through the grass for several meters.

About 1 500 metres away from the body, a burned-out Toyota Corolla was found and a red jacket which could be linked to the murder. In the boot of the car was a rock that is possibly one of the murder weapons.

Inane borrowed his cousin’s taxi on Friday afternoon, but at some point during the night disappeared.
Describing the scene as still being fresh, Nghishimba said it suspected that the murder happened between Friday night and early on Saturday morning.

Nghishimba said that it has been confirmed that Inane was the driver of the vehicle found at the scene.
He, however, said the motive for the murder is not known. There was nothing stolen from the vehicle as far as police could tell.
