I have to say this has been one of the most interesting weeks for me.
The event that has contributed greatly to this interest is something that has not happened and doesn’t seem likely to happen anytime soon.
Nevertheless it provided a lot of amusement for me and many other individuals.
Well, I’m talking about Wilberforce Shihepo’s challenge to former World Champion Harry Simon.
This is not the first time that this fight has been touted but it has received a lot more attention in light of Simon’s recent victory over Ruben Groenewald.
Shihepo claimed that Simon’s win was a farce and has subsequently demanded that the latter give him a fight.
Simon has responded by telling the younger man that he (Simon) is not in a habit of breaking people’s careers, which is what he would do to Shihepo if they fought, he claimed.
This has sparked a debate that has seen many different views being made in both the media and on the streets.
The problem, though, is this is one debate that will never be solved by talking.
In as much as I do not condone violence, it seems only fists will be able to put this debate to rest.
Everyone knows that in boxing the real talking is done in the ring and nowhere else.
So here is my two cents’ worth on the issue.
In the jungle when a younger lion steps up to challenge the Alpha male’s dominance, the elder lion has no choice but to show that he still has his strength by taking on the youthful opponent.
In this scenario it is Simon’s duty to show Shihepo, once and for all, who is the real king.
The derogatory manner in which Shihepo has made his claims also screams of a great lack of respect and I believe Simon must put the man in his place.
Otherwise, it might look like Shihepo’s claims that Simon is running scared of him is true.
In as much as Simon’s record speaks for itself, his legacy will only be further boosted if and when he beats Shihepo because we are all getting tired of Shihepo’s nonstop blabbering.
