Namibia’s finest and rarest auctioned

Agra again takes the lead
Today marks a special event when Agra hosts the first-ever catalogue auction of some of the country’s most unique and seldom seen game.

Golden Oryx, Red Oryx, Sable antelope, Roan antelope and Golden Wildebeest are not animals seen around everywhere - let alone being sold on auction. Agra today hosts another first and unique event - a catalogue auction of Namibia Super Game Dealers’ finest and rarest game. This takes places at 16:00 at the Agra/Bank Windhoek Ring.

Two Red (Sienna) Oryx females originating from the central bushveld of Namibia will for the first time be sold in Namibia.

Most of the common game, two groups of Sable and one of Roan, as well as the Lechwe originate from the Waldeck Game Ranch near Windhoek. Rigorous selection over many years earned owner Kat Briedenhann the reputation of producing outstanding trophy animals and breeding stock.

From Fred Burchell, the first game rancher who actively collected breeding stock from all over southern Namibia, and owner of the biggest and oldest “stud” of golden Oryx, Super Game Dealers offers four young Golden Oryx bulls and two heifers (F 3- 4). To increase the genetic variety on the Golden Oryx on offer, four more mature golden breeding bulls, one pregnant cow and a heifer from three different sources - not related to the Burchell group - will also be on sale.

Walmaine Exotic Game Breeders of Walter Kinnear has two Golden wildebeest heifers (F4) on sale. Kinear established a phenomenal breeding facility for rare game and can be considered Namibia’s foremost breeder of especially the colour variants. In addition, there are a golden wildebeest bull and some Golden wildebeest splits directly from the Tuli Block.

From Gocheganas a pair of White Rhinos will be sold which have been bred out of parent stock originating from five different herds. More rhinos from South Africa will also be for sale. To add further colour to the auction, there will be a breeding group each of Lechwe, Tsessebe and Nyala as well as both breeding groups and rams of Black Springbuck to complete the offer of rare game.

Furthermore, a wide range of other game, males and breeding groups will be on sale. These include Springbok, Impala, Hartebeest, Eland, Kudu, Waterbuck, Blue and Black Wildebeest, Burchell and Hartmann zebras, ostrich and giraffe.

The auction is preceded at 12:00 with lectures by Dr Louis Greeff, a well-known game veterinarian from South Africa, and Dr Ulf Tubbesing of Super Game Dealers. The topics are “Practical wildlife ranching from a veterinarian perspective” and “The future of game ranching”. This will be followed by an open discussion on parasite control in game. Safari Den will present fun activities and food can be bought at the event.
