Brave warriors head coach hunt begins

Commentators say whoever takes over as national coach will face a daunting task with only three World Cup qualifying matches left.

The Namibia Football Association (NFA) is hunting for a permanent replacement for Brave Warriors caretaker coach Bernard Kaanjuka, who resigned yesterday following the team’s devastating 1-0 loss to Malawi in a World Cup qualifi er over the past weekend.

The NFA’s secretary-general Barry Rukoro confirmed to Namibian Sun that a replacement is needed urgently.

“We are no longer going to hire a caretaker coach. We need a substantive coach in a permanent position and that process has already begun,” he said. Read more about Brave warriors head coach hunt begins

Up and coming boxing promoters were given a boost on Wednesday, as Telecom Namibia announced its support for the March 29 card that will see the return to action of Joseph ‘Smokey’ Hilongwa, among other entertaining bouts at the Windhoek Country Club.

Albinus ‘Danny Boy’ Felesianu has vowed to make the boxing world sit up and take note of him, when he fights Ghana’s Herbert Quartey for the IBF Youth Featherweight title on March 29 at the Country Club Resort and Casino in Windhoek.

The soft-spoken Felesianu has been training for this fight for the last two months and he believes his time to finally explode onto the local scene has arrived.

Marais wins Independence Archery Shoot

Francois Marais of the SKW Archery Club once again demonstrated his top archery skills, when he emerged as the overall winner in the Independence Shoot last Saturday. Marais, 21, won the top Compound Men’s category - accumulating 1 350 points.

He is the current African champion and in 2006 was the world champion in the Junior World Field Archery Championship held in Australia. Iroleen van Litzenborgh of Sparta (SPA) Archery Club won the Compound Women’s category with 1 312 points. Thirty-five archers from various clubs around the country participated in the tournament.
