Robyn Nakaambo is the newest brand influencer for Sofn’Free South Africa in Namibia. She fills us in on this partnership. Tjil (t): Congratulations on bagging a deal with Sofn’Free South Africa - what kind of deal is this and what does it entail? Robyn Nakaambo (RN): This deal is phenomenal as it comprises so much more than just influencing. Besides an extensive campaign on my social media platforms, the Sofn’Free team is scheduled to have an awareness campaign in Namibia from 19 September to 4 October in Windhoek and Oshakati. This is a phenomenal opportunity for our local hairdressers to broaden their horizons. t: Are there specific haircare products the team have selected for you to promote, or are you working with the brand as a whole? RN: I will be promoting the new black castor oil range, which comprises of braid spray, hair food, oil moisturising lotion, curl moisturising spray, afro spray, hi-sheen spray and blowout relaxer. t: On a personal level, what values do you feel you share with Sofn’Free that make this partnership more than just a business collaboration? RN: Sofn’Free’s brand promise is that it has been formulated with local and international trends in mind, catering specifically to the needs of the African woman. And at heart of its product formulation is delivering healthy, beautiful hair – allowing individuals to feel good, express their unique style and love their hair. I, for one, am all about authenticity and appreciate any product that allows women to enhance their beauty - and it’s a perk that the product is good for your hair. t: . How do you want this deal to tie in with your legacy as a Namibian influencer? RN: I want influencers to always remember to remain true to themselves. You can truly lose yourself in this industry. Additionally, its pivotal to remain consistent with your brand image and persistently work towards personal development. Set milestones for yourself and work relentlessly towards achieving them. Failures are lessons and wins are stepping stones to bigger goals. Create your niche in our market and sell that to brands. Your job as an influencer is truly effortless when you work from an authentic place. t: Do you have any reservations taking on a deal of this kind given the politics of black women’s hair? RN: No, not at all. I myself use this brand, that’s why I thought I would be the best to advocate for it. The Sofn’Free black castor oil range consists of great products specifically designed for natural hair and some for relaxed hair. A range that accommodates diverse hair textures, I believe, encourages women to be true to themselves and wear their hair the way they feel best, while knowing it remains healthy. I have natural hair so this range has truly been heaven-sent for my journey.
