Vibrant young journalist and presenter Brian Munango is determined to gain multiple media skills.

Having been at Namibia Media Holdings (NMH) for seven months, he shared he is grateful to be working at the biggest media house in the country.

Munango’s job description entails being a presenter on Sports Wrap, which airs on NTV (DStv channel 285 and GoTV channel 94). He also doubles as the mixer for all My Zone shows.

“Besides presenting, packaging and mixing shows, I also contribute to the Careers supplement which comes out in print every Friday,” he shared.

On what he enjoys the most between presenting and mixing, Munango said, he loves both skill sets and is grateful to be gaining experience in both avenues.

“I want to be a jack of all trades. I do not want to be limited to just one thing.”

Love the challenge

He narrated that growing up, he didn’t have aspirations of working in the media industry. After completing his secondary education, Munango studied computer science at the University of Namibia.

“After that course, I tried majoring in English but I stopped halfway because I did not find it challenging. Then I saw that NMH was looking for interns last year.

“I applied, and as they say, the rest is history.”

His highlight so far, he said, has been working as a sports journalist for big sporting events in the country. He said working at such big events has brought out the best him.

“I love the challenge that comes with it. I also get to learn a lot about the work I do and myself at these kinds of events.”

One step at a time

On what he wants to do in the future, Munango said he is taking it one step at a time, adding that as long as he is giving his current job his best, the future is already taken care of.

“I say this because the skills I am gaining now will take care of me in the future,” he said.

He added that he is considering going back to school to do a course in media studies or to pursue a PhD in information technology (IT).

“As long as I am working with computers in the future, I will be content.”
