Could the Odyssey be the best film of the year?

Christopher Nolan delivers a breathtaking cinematic experience that sets a new benchmark for epic filmmaking.
The Odyssey left me speechless because it is quite simply, a masterpiece.

I'm still trying to find the right words to describe it, but the easiest way is to call it a five-star film.

The Odyssey isn't just another film I think you should watch; it's a film you need to experience.

I could talk about the technical aspects of the film. I could discuss the incredible score, sound design and the practical approach to the production.

I could rave about the breathtaking real-world filming locations. I could praise the cast. I could even talk about the story or Christopher Nolan's remarkable vision for cinema, but first I want to talk about how this film made me feel.

As someone who loves film, I can't think of a better cinema experience than this. The story finds a way to make every character matter.

Each one brings something valuable to the narrative. I'll just say it: this is officially my favourite film of the year, and it will take something truly extraordinary to surpass it.

I have nothing but praise for the entire cast. Matt Damon delivers a perfect performance as Odysseus. He isn't simply a man on a mission or a hero of the Trojan War; he is a man carrying the weight of everything he has done. Damon clearly pushed himself to portray the character convincingly through every stage of his journey.

Tom Holland is outstanding as Telemachus, while Anne Hathaway is, as always, exceptional.

Robert Pattinson is superb as the villain Antinous.

I left the cinema genuinely despising him, which says everything about his performance. The rest of the cast are equally phenomenal.

When it comes to the production and technical achievements of this film, there is simply nothing to be disappointed in. It is the first feature to be shot entirely on IMAX 70mm cameras, and every scene transports you into the ancient world of Greece.

Authentic filming

What can I say about the production other than that it is the most beautiful fantasy film I have ever seen? I absolutely loved the costumes, and the authentic filming locations immerse you completely in the world. Everything feels as though it leaps off the screen. Even the relatively small amount of visual effects used throughout the film looks more convincing than those in almost any other blockbuster.

Nolan's films are renowned for their unforgettable musical scores, and The Odyssey is no exception. The music and sound design bring this world vividly to life. I could literally feel the hairs on my arms stand up. The score builds tension, inspires hope and ties the entire story together.

Everything about The Odyssey works because Christopher Nolan remained true to his vision and surrounded himself with an extraordinary cast and crew. I don't just recommend The Odyssey—I believe everyone should see it. It isn't simply another milestone in the history of cinema; it has the potential to redefine what films can be. There isn't a single aspect of this film that I didn't enjoy. In fact, I could say so much more about it, because I loved every single minute of the 173 minutes I spent in the cinema.
